Discover the rare and storied Awa Bancha Tea — a premium organic green tea grown and processed in the pristine highlands of Trongsa, Bhutan, by Black Mountain Green Tea. With roots tracing back to the reign of His Majesty Jigme Wangchuck, the original saplings were brought from Darjeeling and planted near Samcholing Palace, where they were traditionally used for processing butter tea leaves.
The revival of this exceptional tea was led by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Royal Government of Bhutan in 2009, in collaboration with the University of South Korea. In 2022, the cultivation expanded to include black tea, oolong, and other varieties — a testament to Bhutan's commitment to self-sufficiency and sharing its extraordinary botanical heritage with the world.
