Ginger (Zingiber officinale) has long been used in traditional medicine. A highly aromatic plant, ginger has thick underground stem, which has been traditionally used as a food flavoring and as a popular herbal remedy in Bhutan. Ginger is a member of the same plant family as turmeric, which explains why both the plants are so strong and useful. Ginger essential oil is taken from the rhizome, or the underground stem, of the ginger plant. It has a warming, soothing and spicy aromatic experience.

The main component Alpha Zingiberene, aids in creating a healthy digestive system whilst also nurturing and grounding, any emotional imbalances. Due to its soothing properties, Ginger essential oil improves digestion and reduces nausea, bloating and gas.

During the studies carried out, Ginger oil was found to have high antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. A drastic reduction in skin roughness was seen; simultaneously fighting off any form of acne, inflammation or skin disease. The tests were carried out on body, face and scalp. The oil was seen effective in all three, leaving the skin smoother with a healthier scalp. An increase in hair growth was also anticipated, which explains why ginger-based shampoos are very popular.
Due to its warming and high anti-inflammatory properties, Ginger (like Turmeric) makes the perfect oil for massages especially related
to joint pains. On topical application and ingestion, any form of inflammation, not only pertaining to joints, but also organs, were seen to reduce considerably.
