Wangchuk Lhamo is a talented and innovative textile designer from Bhutan, known for her unique approach to combining traditional craftsmanship with modern design. Based in Thimphu, her studio focuses on using natural dyeing techniques and back-strap weaving, a zero-waste method that respects both the environment and cultural heritage. Growing up in a rural village in eastern Bhutan, Wangchuk developed a deep connection to the local crafts from a young age, engaging in tasks like winding yarns and collecting madder roots, which shaped her passion for textiles. She sources her materials locally, using hand-spun yarns such as wool on nettle, cotton, and silk, which she dyes with 100% natural ingredients. Her creations, which emphasize elegance and sustainability, have been recognized for their exceptional quality and have earned her national awards.
